Suffering

The embodiment of human suffering
Shown in plain sight
In our streets and in our towns
If only we looked out the window

All of us could learn something
From despair
It is foolish to think
We are immune

Restless, as we let it sit
Dangerous, as we let it live
Inhuman, as we let it die
Human suffering is all around us

Nobody wants to recognize
The ones who embody it
The souls who are not afraid
To let it out

Poorest of the poor
Sickest of the sick
They stare at us
As we walk on by

They stare because they can’t understand
The difference between us and them
We look away because we know
There isn't much

Uncomfortable truths
Are not worth facing
The subconscious speakers of society
Whisper to us

Injustice is not worth fighting
If it is systemic
But why?
Must the suffering continue?

-----------------------------------

A crisis is imminent
You must know your place
A voice solemnly says
It is your time to suffer

Me?
I stand outside in disbelief
On comes a man
I say hello
He walks right by..
